Halestorm's first taste of fame came from Hellam Township barRed Lion heavy metal band natives won Grammy award
Some York County heavy metal rockers are going home with some heavy metal of their own: a Grammy. Red Lion natives Halestorm got the award for their song “Love Bites, So Do I.” Their first taste of fame came at The Tourist Inn, a Hellam Township bar.
SingerLizzy Hale and her brother, drummer Arejay, natives of Red Lion, spent four years as a house band at the Tourist Inn. They played the stage once every few months. It took the owner just as many notes to realize their talent.
“As soon as the first song she would, you knew,” said Annette Fullerton, the Tourist Inn owner.
The bar’s regulars are proud. One of them wearing their merchandise mentioned that the regulars love them to death.
“TheirCDs, their autographs, my kids wear their shirts all the time. They’ve been wearing them before anybody knew who they were, so that’s a good part,” said Michele Decker, a bartender at the Tourist Inn.
Fullertonis focusing on bringing more original bands here like Halestorm and hopes they take some inspiration from the group’s roots.
“Iwould think that any band that has been on my stage thinks, 'Halestorm has been here, if they can do it, I can do it, too,'” said Fullerton.
Lizzyand Arejay Hale have joked that they are going to display their Grammy in their business meetings now. They say the award will improve their negotiating position in the music industry.
