THE STRANGE CASE OF...
04.13.12
A few thoughts from LB on Halestorm's new album "The Strange Case of...Halestorm."
Okay, I admit upfront that I'm a bit overzealous at times regarding my strong feelings for the band Halestorm. However, let's put all the "Lou's in love with Lzzy and stalks her and gushes about her 24/7 and has a restraining order against him" BS aside for a moment.
This is a phenomenal band and they have just delivered a damn near perfect record. It runs the gamut from hard rock including "Freak Like Me" and "I Miss the Misery" to emotionally driven songs like "Beautiful with You" and "Break In." The album also features a tune that makes me wish I was back in high school just so I could vote it as my prom theme, "Here's to Us."
This is Halestorm's second major label album but they already handle the studio like seasoned pros. Probably has something to do with them being one of the hardest working bands I have ever seen in my career. Joe, Josh and Arejay are note perfect. And Lzzy...well...Lzzy Hale is one of the most extraordinarily gifted performers I have ever witnessed and I've caught 'em all.
Halestorm are on the verge of becoming an upper echelon, arena headlining band. They have the songs, they have the talent, they have the smart management, they have the label who believe in them, they have the work ethic, they have the live show, they have it all. The time has come for them to explode and become household names. It's going to happen. It's in the middle of happening right now. The harder songs will dominate rock radio this year. The other tunes will bring them to an immense audience who are now only discovering them. And it couldn't happen to a nicer group of people. I don't plug the living hell out of this band because Lzzy is cute (although she is), I do it because I believe in them.
Often in rock, a band becomes popular and the rest of the rock world shits all over them. Apparently, for having the audacity of being successful. That sucks. People in the rock world often lament that the pop world is far ahead of them and wonder why. Well, when a pop act hits, the rest of the pop world celebrates them. They all do crossover songs and duets. They appear together on TV. When a rock act hits the get called a sellout. The rock world needs to get its act together and stop behaving like a bunch of jealous, little, cannibalistic, cry-baby, whiney-assed bitches. Maybe Halestorm will be the zeitgeist for all that. They deserve it.
Even if Lzzy does think I'm a stalker and a creep.
Although they did thank me on the album which is nice. Surreal, but nice.
